Philosophy for the Win was intrigued by this post by alt lit writer/artist/musician/entrepreneur Michael Inscoe. We asked the question: what is the nature of the twenty something? What is its relation to one’s actual age?
We may consider the twenty something archetype as we would consider a Wittgensteinian concept - that is, a concept understood not by a definition but by a myriad of resemblances. What are some of those resemblances?
post college years, working jobs unworthy of one’s talent to make a living, regretting humanities studies rather than something more pragmatic, monetarily unprofitable yet pleasurable artistic endeavors, communal living, watching others marry/have children/buy houses and questioning their and one’s own motivations, multiple short term projects for a boggling resume of determination, etc
In this vein, are we ever really out of our twenties? Are we not ‘young at heart?’
How many Thought Catalog/Tangential/New York Times posts can you find ascribing such lists to this group?
Happy early bday, Michael!
